My boys love playing outside. Luckily we have accommodating weather for most of the year and can enjoy lots of outside time. They love playing in the backyard but naturally parks and playgrounds hold a greater appeal. We even seek out playgrounds on vacation. A new playground is uncharted territory that my boys can’t wait to explore!

Unfortunately, not all children have access to a safe playground. In April 2010, the Centers for Disease Control reported that only one out of five children in the United States lives within a half-mile of a park or playground, and the availability of places to play looms far worse in low-income neighborhoods. KaBOOM! designates these child-rich, playspace-poor neighborhoods as Play Deserts.
KaBOOM! is working to eliminate Play Deserts. They are one of the nation’s largest nonprofits dedicated to saving play for American’s children. Since 1995, KaBOOM! has raised more than $200 million dollars, built over 2,000 playgrounds with the help of a million volunteers and saved play for over 5.5 million children! Amazing!
To stay up to date on more of their amazing progress to save play, follow KaBOOM! on Twitter, Facebook and of course Pinterest!
