Weekend Wrap Up: Trucks, Tutu’s & Torrential Rain!

I had quite an eventful weekend! Well actually it was quite an eventful 24 hours!  It started with an early morning drive on Saturday. I headed to Phoenix with a group of bloggy friends, #AZColorBloggers to do The Color Run. It was my first 5k and definitely a bucket list item.

Of course I didn’t want to pick just any old 5k event, I wanted a fun, crazy, colorful 5k. And that definitely describes The Color Run!

And of all the days for Arizona to have record breaking rain… Because pictures often tell the best story, here are some fun photos from The Color Run!

After The Color Run

I highly recommend participating in The Color Run if you get a chance. Despite the ridiculously cold and wet weather, we managed to have a very colorful good time. ;-)

Monster Jam

After checking into the hotel, I graciously ;-) allowed my fellow Tucson #AZColorRunBloggers to clean up before they headed home. Then I showered and rested while I waited for my boys to arrive. We had tickets to Advance Auto Parts MONSTER Jam at Chase field!

Just seeing an event at Chase field was pretty cool for my boys. It’s a huge ball park and worked well for Monster Jam. Elliot and I had never seen a monster truck event before and while I admit its not my cup of tea, the boys had a BLAST!

If you have never been to a monster truck event, the most important tip is to bring ear protection, it is LOUD! I was a little sad to see some kids not wearing anything. :-(

Quinn had fun cheering for different trucks during the “heats.”  Naturally Team Hot Wheels, Grave Digger, Batman and McGruff were his favorites. There was a little extra excitement when Grave digger qualified for the championship race but engine troubles led to him bowing out.  Monster Energy (who seemed to be a popular truck) took his place in the final race ended up beating Metal Mulisha.

We ended up leaving a little early because 9pm is pretty late for Elliot but the boys loved every minute of our Monster Jam adventure. I know they will want to see it again!

By the way the SpringHill Suites Phoenix/Tempe Airport had a sweet rate for The Color Run participants and we had a great 1-night stay. The location worked well for both The Color Run in Tempe and attending Monster Jam at Chase Field. It was a huge studio type room with plenty of space for my crazy boys and breakfast in the morning. Breakfast with lots of options including fresh cut fruit! I would stay there again!

Have you ever ran a super fun 5k or gone to Monster Jam??

Disclosure: I did receive a free race bib to participate in The Color Run and tickets to attend Monster Jam. Both events were a blast and I would recommend them! As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

    • It was fun seeing you again, maybe it won’t be so long before it happens again! And you definitely should take them to Monster Jam next time. It’s such a little boy thing!

  1. I almost did the Color Run in Tucson a few months ago, but already had 2 other races that month. Next year for sure!

As for the Monster Jam- we always go when it’s in Tucson Arena. Such a small stadium makes for a VERY loud environment & it’s so sad to see little kids crying because they don’t have ear protection. But if you do it’s a blast!

    • Peter is ready to take the boys back to the Tucson Monster Jam, he says they are both good for different reason. In Tucson, I guess you are so close the trucks are jumping “like” right in front of you? ;-) We were up pretty high at Chase field so the trucks were pretty far away, but the boys still loved it. Plus they still think riding escalators is a big deal. ;-)
