An extra special Disneyland Treat: Mickey’s Halloween Party {Travel Tuesday}

September 11, 2012 · 7 comments

We are super excited to be headed back to the Disneyland Resort this year for Halloween Time! Last week, I shared some of the fun Halloween experiences we are excited about and have enjoyed in past…

Today I wanted to talk about Mickey’s Halloween Party, this will be our first year attending!

Mickey’s Halloween Party is an after-hours event that allows for trick-or-treating within the park, a special “Halloween Screams” fireworks spectacular and “Mickey’s Costume Party” cavalcade.

And because it’s held at Disneyland there are still rides, attractions and characters to enjoy!

I think my boys will really enjoy seeing the Disney characters dressed up for Halloween! We haven’t experienced the Halloween Party yet because I wanted the boys to be old enough to enjoy it. At 2 1/2 I think Elliot will be *just* old enough to get a kick out of it. And at 5 Quinn definitely enjoys dressing up and trick-or-treating.

Various candy stations are set up throughout the park for trick-or-treating fun.  As a mom, I am super happy to report that Disney provides healthier treats as well as candy!

What are the chances I can con sweet talk my boys into eating a few healthy treats first?

Once the boys score a few treats, we can focus on enjoying “Mickey’s Costume Party” cavalcade and the “Halloween Screams” fireworks spectacular.

"Halloween Screams – A Villainous Surprise in the Skies" is a fireworks spectacular hosted by "Master of Scare-omonies" Jack Skellington and presented exclusively for guests of Mickey’s Halloween Party. Jack appears in a flash of fire above Sleeping Beauty Castle as haunting melodies fill the air and a Halloween pyrotechnics extravaganza explodes into the night. Classic Disney villains Maleficent, Ursula the Sea Witch and Oogie Boogie join in the "spirit" of the celebration and even Zero, Jack’s faithful ghost dog, makes an appearance. Guests are encouraged to participate in a bone-chilling Halloween scream-along during the show.

The Halloween Party ticket allows you entrance to Disneyland 3 hours prior to the private event. So you can definitely head over and enjoy a little regular ‘Disney’ magic before the Halloween Party starts!

The after-hours Mickey’s Halloween Party is offered as a separate-ticket event* on these nights: Sept. 28 and Oct. 2, 5, 9, 12, 15, 19, 23, 26, 29 and 31.

Tickets purchased in advance for Mickey’s Halloween Party are $54 most days, while tickets purchased on the event days are $64. All tickets to Mickey’s Halloween Party on Monday, Oct. 29, and Halloween Night, Wednesday, Oct. 31, are $69.

I imagine that we will see quite a few Peter Pan costumes at the party, but I wonder how many Mr. Smees will be there. I am almost done with Elliot’s costume. How do you think I am doing so far?

What costume would your kids wear to Mickey’s Halloween Party?

All information and pictures are compliments of Disneyland News, except of course the cute one with Elliot and of course all opinions are my own.

I can easily answer your question because we are going to MNSSHP on 10-23. Sam is going to be Buzz Lightyear and Jay is going to be Woody. I am going to be a Halloween Tater (Mrs. Potato Head) and their dad is going to be Pirate (Mr.) Potato Head. I am making our costumes and although they won’t be masterpieces of sewing and crafting, I will be excited to wear them and be at the party !!

He is so cute! love it!!
I’m guessing you are going to be Wendy or Tinker Bell??
We went Mickey’s Halloween Party last year, we had a great time! My older one was Vidia and younger one was sleeping beauty.
I definitely recommend to go see Mickey and Minnie early. It was a long line…
and since there are limited amount of people, I thought it wouldn’t be that bad to watch fireworks. Well, I was wrong… get there early for a good spot!
We are taking time off from Disneyland this year :(
We went 5 times in 1 year last year :) Thank you for all your help and AP info!
I hope you all will have a wonderful time!!!

Cute costume! I have a question for you…last year I learned from your sight about the Hojo entertainment rates. We stayed there for a great price, now it looks like its only a 20% discount? Do you know if they stopped the $69 rates? Do you know of any other cheap hotels on that strip? Thanks for your help! We are trying to go the first week of Dec :)

Hi Becky,

I think the glorious days of $69 rates are long gone. :-( They are just too popular. They do have another option to sign up for an exclusive email list for deals up to 50% off. You can read about it here. http://www.boards.hojoanaheim.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=815 I don’t think they emails go out very often but I have received it. As far as where to stay, we are pretty loyal to HOJO even at full rates. I did consider the disney hotels for this trip though because with discounts it was pretty close to the full rate we are paying at the HOJO. For other hotels along harbor, I found this map online, its not hte best but the furthest out I would stay is HOJO to the north but you could stay just as far (from the crosswalk) south and expect a similar walk time. http://www.acsac.org/2008/hotel/
Does that help?

And I just found this map that is even cooler… you can see the hotel names when you hover over them…and it show all the way from the HOJO down south to the Toy Story Parking lot.. Great resource!! http://wikimapia.org/#lat=33.8065376&lon=-117.9193922&z=15&l=0&m=b
