The Power of a Smile {Thankful}

The Power of a Smile.jpg

I am thankful for my little guys’ smiles.

I am thankful for the frequency of their smiles.

I am especially thankful to see their smiles when they start feeling better after being sick.

I am thankful for the confidence their smiles radiate.

And even though we didn’t need it, I am thankful we live in a place with resources to help fix the smiles of kids that do need it.

Power of a Smile.jpg Some children are born with a cleft lip and palate. This greatly affects their ability to smile, eat and even breathe. Here in the US, it’s easily fixed but in developing countries, there are millions of children that are left to live their lives in discomfort and shame.

Smile Train is an international children’s charity that focuses on a single solvable problem: cleft lip and palate. Smile Train surgery can take as little as 45 minutes and cost as little as $250. They’ve helped more than a million children and are ready to help millions more.

We can help Smile Train with their mission. They use the “teach a man to fish” model by training local doctors to perform cleft repairs in their communities and then go on and train other local doctors. With this model, Smile Train has created a long-term sustainable system. With the help of donors and more than 2,000 partner surgeons around the world, they’ve helped ~127,000 children a year for the past 15 years!

A smile is the fastest and simplest way to convey joy and happiness. Smiles are infectious and help brighten everyone’s mood. Everyone deserves the ability to smile and live their lives with confidence.

I am thankful that by supporting Smile Train, we can make the difference in the lives of many children with clefts. Join Smile Train and change the world one smile at a time.
